What is "Reprun Fukushima"?

As part of efforts for open communication of information related to the specified waste landfill project, the Ministry of the Environment opened Reprun Fukushima in August 2018. This is a specified landfill information facility located in Tomioka Town, Futaba County, Fukushima Prefecture. By introducing the contents of the specified waste landfill project and programs for ensuring safety, and by openly disclosing the latest information including the progress of disposal and monitoring results, it aims to help alleviate questions and unease among local residents and ensure peace of mind, as well as to promote understanding of project safety by a wide range of persons within and beyond the prefecture.

Programs for environmental regeneration in Fukushima

These hands-on permanent exhibits are based on the concepts of moving, touching, and playing.

Visitors can learn about an overview and the necessity of the specified waste landfill project, safety measures, the progress status, and other matters through hands-on experiences with permanent exhibits utilizing digital contents.

The facility staff will carefully explain the exhibits and the environmental regeneration programs of the Ministry of the Environment, centering on the specified waste landfill project.

Tours of the specified waste landfill site

As one part of openly communicating information about the specified waste landfill project, tours for visitors are conducted of the specified waste landfill site. (*Reservations are necessary.) Participants can see the actual conditions of the facility and of waste treatment and disposal.

At the landfill site, participants can listen to an explanation from an observation platform at the facility and learn about the actual landfill conditions.

Due the discontinuation of operations, tours of the Cement Solidification Facility for Specified Waste are no longer being offered, effective September 23, 2023.

Tours of the specified waste landfill site

Available tour times: Tuesday – Saturday (Not available Sundays and days when Reprun Fukushima is closed)

Morning tour

10:30 start – 11:30 end

Afternoon tour

14:00 start – 15:00 end

* A staff member will accompany you during the tour. The number of participants in each tour is expected to be around 20. Elementary school age children and younger persons must be accompanied by a guardian.

As part of providing open information about the Specified Waste Landfill Project, we offer tours of the landfill site that are available to visitors. By actually seeing the conditions of the facility and landfill for yourself, you can learn in further detail about the project and about the safety measures involved.

Tours of the specified waste landfill site for ordinary visitors require an advance reservation. Please read "Requests Concerning the Tour" and complete the necessary items in the "Tour Request Form", then send it by FAX or email to Reprun Fukushima.

Visitors coming by car

From the expressway and national highway Route 6:

About 15 minutes on Route 6 headed towards Soma from the Hirono Interchange on the Joban Expressway
About 15 minutes on Route 6 headed towards Iwaki from the Joban-Tomioka Interchange on the Joban Expressway
About 10 minutes on Route 6 headed towards Soma from the Naraha Smart Interchange on the Joban Expressway

Visitors coming by public transportation

Coming by train

The nearest (next-nearest) station is Tomioka (Tatsuta) Station on JR Joban Line.
We recommend using a taxi from the Station to the facility.
(The distance is around 3.4km from Tomioka Station or 4.4 km from Tatsuta Station.)

Parking area: Spaces for 20 passenger cars and 2 large buses

  • The parking area is only for use by visitors to the facility.
  • Be sure to lock your car when stepping away from it.
  • Reprun Fukushima bears no responsibility for any theft, accidents, or other incidents that occur in the parking area.
  • Please stop the engine while your car is parked.
  • The parking area is open only during the facility operating hours. (Facility hours: 9:00 – 17:00, closed Mondays)
